Abstract

This study explores the evolving roles of ethnic associations in engendering
inclusive governance as a conflict management strategy to foster inter-
ethnic dialogue in Gombe State, Nigeria. Using qualitative research
methods, interviews were conducted with 45 purposively selected participants, including ethnic leaders, community stakeholders, government
officials, and social researchers. These participants were chosen for their
leadership roles and members of civil society organizations. The findings
reveal that ethnic associations serve as essential platforms for inclusive
dialogue and culturally sensitive conflict resolution, fostering mutual
understanding and trust among communities. Inclusive governance,
characterized by the involvement of traditional rulers and community
representatives, was found to play a pivotal role in mitigating ethnic tensions by promoting fairness, transparency, and locally-tailored solutions aligned with cultural traditions. Furthermore, technological advancements, such as real-time communication tools and data-driven approaches, were identified as key enablers in enhancing conflict management through timely and
evidence-based decision-making. The study emphasizes the need to integrate cultural heritage, inclusive governance, and modern technological
tools to ensure sustainable peace and social harmony in Gombe State. It
recommends prioritizing continuous community engagement and education to empower local populations, enhance their conflict resolution capacity, and promote social integration.
